Blood Donation Camp

Consumer Affairs Authority has organized a Blood Donation Camp on 1st April 2019 in conjuction with the celebration of World Consumer Rights Day held on 15th March 2019 at the CAA head office.
 

 

 

Speech delivered by the Chairman at the WCRD 2018

“By welcoming all the participants for the event Chairman Consumer Affairs Authority Mr. Hasitha Tillekeratne, mentioned that this Public Private Dialogue is funded by the European Union with the active participation of the International Trade Centre (ITC) and is first time of its kind organized by the CAA. 

While mentioning the services rendered by the Consumer Affairs Authority he explained the theme of World Consumer Rights Day 2018 “Making the Digital Market Fairer”  

He added that currently, in Sri Lanka 33% of the population are using the internet and Sri Lanka has relatively high mobile penetration in comparison to the regional average.                                              

Further, he highlighted that CAA Act is being amended to protect the consumers whilst safeguarding all the stakeholders involved in e-commerce. 

Consumer Affairs Authority has proposed to initiate a public private dialogue in order to understand and critically evaluate the existing regulatory framework of the Sri Lankan digital market, understand how e-commerce has been structured in the context of current trade negotiations, and to formulate recommendations in order to facilitate legislative and regulatory priorities. This will help to establish modernized consumer e-commerce law framework with due regard to the international trade context.

                                                                                                         

Finally he mentioned that workshop will bring valuable insights to promote e-commerce in Sri Lanka. “

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Awareness Program for Technical College Students

Consumer Affairs Authority conducted an awareness program on 13th of February 2019 at Sri Lanka College of Technology, Colombo for college students. CAA officials explained service rendered by the authority and consumer rights and responsibilities to college students  in creating safe marketing environment.

National Public Private Dialogue on “Making the Digital Market Place Fairer”

The theme of the Consumer Rights Day 2018 declared by the Consumers International is “Making the Digital Market Place Fairer”.  In line with the Consumer Rights day,   a public private dialogue has been organized and this will be held on 15th and 16th March 2018 at Hotel Taj samudra, Colombo.  The key stakeholders in e commerce such as regulatory agencies, policy making bodies, Universities & research organizations, e commerce industry participants, industry organizations and e commerce consumers have been invited to bring their valuable insights to the forum. This public Private Dialogue steered by the ITC Consultant Dr Michael Geist   will enable stakeholders to

  • Understand and critically evaluate the existing regulatory framework on the Sri Lankan digital market

  • Have an overview of e commerce international best practices

  • Understand how e commerce has been structure in the context of current trade negotiations

  • Propose recommendations on key legislative and regulatory priorities for establishing modernized consumer e- commerce law framework

This event is organized by the Consumer Affairs Authority in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) under the framework of EU-Sri Lanka Trade Related Assistance Project and funded by the European Union.
