A raid was conducted, as per a complaint received by the Investigation officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority, regarding issuing of re-packed expired cement stock. Accordingly large number of expired cement bags and expired re-packed cement stock has been taken into custody and the said cement store has been sealed. Legal action will be taken in due course as per the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No.09 of 2003

Traders not utilized proper crates were persecuted
With the introduction of law relating to utilization of plastic, wooden or paper crates for transporting and storing vegetables and fruits, Consumer Affairs Authority has taken action to implement the said law. Accordingly, during the raids carried out on Peliyagoda and Avissawella areas, 16 traders who were not utilized proper crates for transporting vegetables and fruits were produced before the court and the magistrate’s court imposed fine varying from of Rs.2500/- to Rs.7000/-.

An awareness programme for the trade community of the Moratuwa area was held on 15.06.2012 at Bauddha Mandiraya, Moratuwa under the guidance of the Consumer Affairs Authority and this program was organized by the Traders Association -Moratuwa. The main objective of the programme was to make aware as to how the business affairs would be carried out by the businessman in compliance with the rules & regulations in the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
Mr. Chandrarathna Pallegama, Director General of Consumer Affairs Authority, Mr. Milton Amarasinghe , Executive Director, Directors of all the Divisions of Authority and number of officers attached to Education, Awareness and Training Unit were participated at this event. About 200 traders engage in various business activities in Moratuwa area were also participated.
